Description of activity |
Individual
ICT course "Students to seniors" Activity devoted to the improvement of the intergeneration communication. Students from a secondary school specialized in ICT teach seniors how to work with PC. Aims of the course: - Introduction of computers and other modern utilities to senior citizens for better and active life - Introduction of different worlds and different generations - Improvement of computer literacy in the group of senior citizens |
Language course: "Don´t worry that you are more than fifty". The school will prepaire special slow-pace courses for the beginners and the elementary senior students. The courses respect adult learners and the specifics connected with them. There is an important role of revision and step by step explanation. |
The school plan to cooperate with local institutions that work with senior citizens. The local institutions offer courses of physical training (yoga, rehabilitation etc.); self-defence courses; tourist clubs; filatelist club; the third age university etc. The school would like to develop more activities where it would be possible to connect old and young generation as the PC skills teaching appeard to be very successful. |
Whom is activity addressed to |
Senior citizens from the age of 50 with no experience or small PC skills. |
Senior citizens from the age of 50, beginners or elementary. |
|
Tools required |
Individual "slow-pace" teaching. The course is tailor-made to each senior. The lessons take place at seniors´ home or at school (if required), the content of the course is created with the attention to individual skills of each seniors. There are two objectives to be met: - improvement of PC skills - improvement of Inter-generation Communication Tools required are PCs, study materials and positive thinking. |
Tools required cover special study books for adult learner and teachers educated in the area of adult teaching. |
|
Barriers met |
There are no big barriers to be met. The course is very succesful with a positive impact on the intergeneration dialogue. The only barrier is to persuade the senior citizens that there is no need to worry about computers. And students are very natural in communication with the older generation. . |
Qualified language teachers from the secondary school |
|
Staff qualification |
Young students (aged 15-20) work as teachers. They are supervised by project coordinators (qualified teachers). They teach in the frame that was prepaired for them by qualified staff. Experience with connecting young and old generation is very positive. Old people appreciate invdividual courses and the fact that they can become familiar with a lot of aspects of modern world. There is the only question of students-teachers motivation |
It is important to show that the courses are for seniors only. He pace of the lesson is very slow with quite a lot of time devoted to repetition. Teacher must speak slowly and aloud. |
|
Experience to be shared / conclusions |
We can recommend the activity as it is a great benefit for both generations. The students work as volunteers (their motivation is the possibility to get some experience and to be a part of the international project with a chance to travel abroad). It is a very effective cooperation. |
