1. INTRODUCTION OF PARTICIPANTS

E-seniors  (France), Non-profit organization

The aim of the organization is teaching and helping out seniors about new technologies of information and communication. Group courses are in 10 different places (public  places) in the centre of  Paris and home computer assistance. E-seniors also offers courses for MCI  = people suffering for first symptoms of Alzheimer and courses in retirement homes for seniors

 

Adult Education School of Aznalcollar (Spain)

Aznalcollar Adult schools (35 km from Seville) offers state and free education. It shares place with Primary Education School. The school has 125 students (16 to 80 years old), the team is small and polyvalent, composed of 5 teachers. The main purpose is to teach  people who did not have opportunity to learn in life (older students are mostly women, younger ones are mostly 16 years old , at the end of high school and having failed in studies).

The  aims  of the adult school are: Integration into society (community + council + town), citizen participation, wide educational studies, ICT lessons

 

Computer training:

6 computers

They offer several courses of different  levels

The first priority is to  be aware that internet is not only for young people

From 5PM to 8PM : young people

From  4PM to   6 PM  : older people

Volkshochschule ELB (Germany)

Selb is a town  in  Bavaria, north of Bayreuth , 5 km to Czech border with 17 000 inhabitants

There is a high unemployment rate; so  young people are leaving the town and  old people stay. 10000 students attend non formal education courses with 16 full time teachers and 60 part time teachers. Among the students there are more women than men.

The activities are (among others) :

-         Courses for vocational training : business education , more qualification for people who left school, personal business skills

-         Language courses: English, Czech, Russian, ..

-         Health courses : yoga, aerobic,..

-         Different cultural subjects

 

Activities for seniors

-         computer training

-         mobile phone courses

-         language discussion groups (with coffee…etc)

-         health courses

 

 

 

New : Internet Café Anschluss

Begins next week (22nd of October), meeting place especially for people to get :

-         access to new medias

-         access to other people

-         access to the world

-         access to other generations

Regional Center for Social Integration (Poland)

It is part of the public regional library  in  KRAKOW in  MALOPOLSKA region

The  missions of the  library are :

  • center for  meetings /socializing
  • professional training
  • training for work with children and disabled readers.
  • cooperation with other libraries

 

Activities for Seniors:

How to deal with modern technological  tools

Objectives:

  • Social integration through meetings
  • Stimulating active way of live
  • Stimulate intergenerational communication

 

Computer training:

67 applicants

8 computers

10 hours for fundamentals of computers

10 hours for internet

Computer rainings are free -  people would not able to pay

There is a slow change of mentalities to consider senior as a wealth resource and the  state to recognize this

 

There are different other trainings for social integration

 

There is a partner in this project : Polish-German Association in Krakow in view of  international cooperation

 

Service Center Foibe (Finland)

The institution is located 20 km from Helsinki. FOIBE is an independent foundation and exists since  20 years. The customers are in a range  from babies to “grannies”.

Among the activities : physiotherapy, group therapy, gym exercise, rehabilitation for veterans and music, spiritual events, lectures, library, computer courses for elderly.

Different new projects of the centre:

  • Activities for care giving relatives
  • Courses for weight control
  • IT for Seniors
  • Nutrition for elderly
  • Learning in later life = inter-generation communication Grundtvig project:

Other subjects to develop: Contact far away relatives by Skype,

                                           How to use cellular telephones (young people could be good teachers),

Private Secondary schools network EDUCANET (Czech republic)

It is composed of 6 schools offering 2 studies programs for juniors: information technology in 4 years,  business studies in  4 years and a  program for adults. There are 20 students (15 years old to 19) involved in the project: They are divided into a  group of teachers cooperating together with a group of managers. Programme for IT for adults :

  • Word processing
  • Mails
  • Skype ICQ
  • Internet : search for information

Courses are once a week at school, with  20 computers

Students will go to seniors at home to teach computers

Motivation for juniors  = they get experience in teaching , in English…

General rules for all meetings

 

Travel, hotel and food are paid by participants.

Welcome drink,  one festive dinner  and break snacks/drinks are offered by host country.

The host country proposes sightseeing visit of the town

 

Note  : the German partner would like to get in November the list of participants for better organization

2.4. Project tasks allocation

 

Access to modern technologies (task no 1)

This will be the subject of the meeting in January 08 in Germany. Enabling access to  modern technologies means breaking the different barriers that could avoid it, by solving cost problems  and offering training.

It include discussions on the following topics :

-         access to hardware (and software) : including the use of recycled computers to solve the acquisition cost of a computer and the hardware

-         access to Internet :including offering free Internet access ( e.g.free WIFI in town) to avoid the barrier of the connexion costs

-         basic ICT training  in groups for low cost participation

-         basic training for new technologies (telephone, Skype,..)

-         free volunteer assistance  : finding  and training  volunteers for home computer assistance and training (under others for disabled people who cannot come to group courses)

-         finding sponsors for hardware or different grants for adult education

-         state of the art in each country

 

OUTPUT: a list of “recommendations” (in terms of finding sponzors)

RESPONSIBLE: all partners

DEADLINE:  20.12.2007 - to this date all partners send their contributions to host institution to Germany

 

 

Introduction of different teaching methods ( task no 2)

New teaching methods : conceiving and testing – (task no 4)

This will be the subject of the meeting in January 09 in Spain. For this part there will be cooperation of the Czech and Spanish teams.

 

For task no 2, there will be discussions on :

-         teaching methods depend on scheme : seniors to seniors or juniors to seniors

-         teaching methods depend on age of students

-         method depends on subject : windows environment, Internet search, email

-         importance of ratio “teachers to students”

-         ratio of theoretical/ practical parts of teaching

-         paper support for lessons and exercises

-         best time organisation : duration of lesson, how many meetings per week or month

-         levels and content of courses per level

-         importance of self (home) training after lessons

For task no 4 :

-         models for paper supports/visuals for teaching

-         preparing lessons about technology products (telephone, …)

-         ratio of success at short term

-         ratio of success at long

 

OUTPUT: a list of “recommendations” (theoretical part)

                  a list of exemplary lessons on the following topics: internet, e-mail, windows

RESPONSIBLE: France and Poland for theoretical questions (30.12.2007)

                            Czech republic and Spain for template for lesson content (30.12.2007)

                            All partners for answering theoretical questions and for publication at leat one lesson content. Testing new activities or "methods" in partner organizations is voluntary, the outcomes will be presented at the meeting.

MEETING: everybody presents exemplary lesson

 

Note : between November 07 and  January 09, every other team must send at least 1 example of lessons contents and/or supports and  think about new methods how to transfer knowledge about  internet, email, windows

 

At the meeting in Spain, each team will present an exemple of teaching method.

 

Introduction  of different activities  (task  no 3)

This will be the subject of the meeting in June 08 in Finland

Among questions to discuss :

-    activities used by partners

-         to whom the activity addresses

-         technical contents

-         tools required  and barriers met

-         conclusions,  experience to be shared

-         ergonomics

-         basic computer courses

-         memoirs (with book output)

-         cooking courses

-         practical : banking  (voluntary teacher from bank)

-         travel : buying on the internet

Inter-generational  dialogue (task no 6)

This will be the subject of the meeting in October 08 in Paris

Partners should bring some young people(students) to this meeting, among other the winning group of the Senior Olympic Games

2 parts for this task:

  1. There will be a “real” discussion meeting with juniors/seniors : “Café des Ages “
  2. There will be theoretical discussion and conclusions between partners

Questions for preparation of the meeting

-         how to find young people interested in this king of dialogue

-         subjects to talk about

-         historical context can be a subject for dialogue

Subjects to discuss :

-         Activities/ subjects for juniors and seniors in term of computer courses

-         The different  benefits of the dialogue  for  seniors  and for  juniors

-         Description of local initiatives (Anschluss Café in Germany)

DEADLINE: 26.10.2008 - preparation for meeting presentation

 

 

Seniors Olympic games (task no 5)= transversal

 

This is a transversal task and an important product of our project. The games will be  in the form of a big QUIZZ with questions , which will mix testing of technical of  computer word processing and internet search and cultural knowledge  in a ludic way (having the appearance of a game)

Each partner should prepare, for instance 15  questions  and then all questions together would make the Quiz. The  first version of the quiz should  be set up in January 08 wher partners will bring the questions they have prepared. The first part of the games will be done in each country with the local seniors in June

The winner of the quiz will get a price. The price could be , first, to appear in a newspaper article  written about the project.

But it could also be that the winner will be invited to travel  -using one mobility of the winning country -   to the last and closing meeting in Krakow.

The second part of Olympic Games will be held in January 2009, topic is "European Countries"

 

OUTPUT: outputs of the SEG to compare and present on the web

DEADLINE: 16.1.2008 (Germany meeting) - preparation of 15 questions to SOG

 

Learning about EU countries (task no 7) + closing meeting

This will be the subject of the meeting in June 09 in Poland

The second part of the senior Olympic games could be a kind of test about  knowledge of Europe (while using computer tools). It would be interesting if some seniors , who are volunteers to talk about there memoirs touching subjects concerning EUROPE, would be invited. In this meeting the recommendations have to be finalized.

If partners are interested to continue work together, a new project could be prepared and submitted to European grants.

For this meeting media (newspaper, TV, radio) should be present.

 

 

 

 

TOOL: Discussion at the end of each meeting (workplan with questions for every meeting)

             Minutes after meeting : the final version will contain suggestions of all participant

We want to have a specific logo four our project

Czech  students should make a proposition  for a logo which should remind that we deal with:

-         a European project

-         connection between generations

-         computers

 

The different logo proposal will be sent to all partners after 20.12.2007. They will be presented at the next meeting in Germany (latest) and one will be chosen by the participants
