Lesson Lenght:

1 lesson = 90 minutes

   4 meetings x 90 min (once a week)

 

Notes:

10 seniors; aged: >55

Task/Objectives:

              Internet Basics 

 

For seniors having fundamental knowledge concerning computers and wanting to extend it to be familiar with internet


Content :

1.   Internet

2.   www websites fundamentals: how it works, self-browsing, searching the information, using, using internet-browsers

3.   E-mail (establishing the account, sending/receiving e-mails, sending/receiving attachments)

 

 

Description of Activity/Activities

 

Courses are for 10 seniors ( with 2 teachers), once a week when the library is open.

Target group:

·         those who finished course on Basic Computer Operation;

·         senior citizens having basic knowledge on computers

 

Seniors are made familiar with internet websites and browse tools. They should create their own account, send e-mail messages, enclose attachments.

The participants at the end of course obtain course materials and certificate.

Sound systems are used during courses.

 

In all types of activities, the trainers are usually young people and during trainings and/or meetings inter-generation dialogue occurs as natural phenomenon.

Courses are free of charge.

Verification (steps to check for student understanding):         

 

  • Pace of training is adjusted to the capability of the group.
  • Always after theoretical introduction, an extended practical part is carried out.
  • Homework is distributed among the participants.
  • At the last meeting an anonymous test of knowledge and course evaluation are carried out.

Author Notes:

 

  • Courses are very popular
  • Almost all the participants exhibit interest in attending the more advanced courses.
  • Outstanding cooperation and communication is observed between trainers (young people) and training participants (senior citizens).
  • Courses strongly indicate that contrary to the popular opinion only peers are efficient as teachers/trainers of senior citizens.
