Our HEU projects

TALER
December 2023 – November 2026

GNU TALER is a protocol that enables open payments through the implementation of open-source reference software: fast, secure, and easy.
This new system aims to protect buyers’ privacy by ensuring anonymity and compliance with the European GDPR, AML (“Anti-Money Laundering”), and KYC (“Know Your Customer Regulation”).

In addition to anonymity, user-friendliness, and security, GNU TALER offers several advantages, such as:
Ensuring revenue control for the government by establishing a cryptographic link between revenue and underlying commercial activities to prevent tax evasion, money laundering, tax fraud, etc.
Guaranteeing a micropayment system for the purchase of digital services.
An open protocol to reduce fragmentation in the payments market and the resulting high integration costs.
The main objective of the TALER project is to commercialize the TALER instant payment system throughout Europe.

The expected outcomes of the project are:
To carry out all necessary steps to ensure the GNU Taler payment system operates legally in the eurozone, Hungary, and Switzerland.
To integrate the GNU Taler exchange software into core banking systems and consumer-facing banking products.
Make GNU Taler monitorable in real time.
Refine and improve the GNU Taler offering.
Engage with economic actors, including consumers, and stakeholders across three vertical markets to make it easy to use for older adults, people with disabilities, and marginalized groups.
Collect structured data on beneficiaries.
Expand the availability of GNU Taler payment system components to as many platforms as possible.
Enhance the security features of the GNU Taler system.
